Tournament Information
Tournaments are the pinnacle of tennis competition, giving players the opportunity to play against players from other clubs, towns, city's, states and sometimes countries.
There are several different level of tournament depending on your development and position in your tennis journey. Getting started in tennis tournaments for the first time can be a little confusing. The information below is a guide to help you navigate the tennis pathways of tournament & event play.
The Different Tournament Categories and Levels:
Level 1: Junior Development Series Events
Junior Development tournaments are predominatly 1 day events offering round robin draws giving players matches whether they win or lose. These are great starting point as it introduces players to the tournament environment and atmosphere in a fun and friendly way, not putting to much emphasis on the need to win matches to keep playing.
Local Tournaments- Geelong Lawn run a Junior Development tournament the first Sunday of every month.
Level 2: Australian Junior Tour
In the Australian Junior Tour Events, players start to play best of 2 or 3 set tennis matches. This is the first step for players wanting to test their skills against players from other cities, towns and states and wanting to head towards Elite tennis whether that be professional, state representation or playing in Nationals at the end of the year. In these events players can earn point which go towards qualification for the end of year Junior Tour Masters events held at Melbourne Park.
These events are split into different levels depending on your Universal Tennis Rating (UTR)- more information on UTR is provided at the bottom, the higher the level the more points that are on offer for players.
1. Junior Series 125
2. Premier 250
3. Signature 500
4. National 1000
After players have trialled their skills in the Junior Development Series and are becoming more confident and getting more match wins, Zone Series events are great next step. These events are played over multiple days and all across Victoria. As coaches this is where we like to see our players competing.

Level 3: Australian Progress Series
After players progress from the Australian Junior Series, they then head into the Australian Progress Series which is a variety of Open events where Prize Money is offered.
There are 2 different levels of events where players again compete to get acceptance into the end of year Masters Event
1. Premier- $10,000 prize money
2. Signature- $20,000 prize money
After players have trialled their skills in the Junior Development Series and are becoming more confident and getting more match wins, Zone Series events are great next step. Social Family Friendly Tournaments
Social Family friendly tournaments are great events to take the whole family. Whether you are competitive or only interested in having a hit, these tournaments have events for everyone from socials Men's and Women's events, to junior and Open events.
Majority of the time, these events are held on public/ long weekends such as Easter or Labour Day.
